Our last effort to Sakon Nakhon was in January 2012, we successfully catered to 100 needy families and 180 children.
This time it's part of a bigger effort to search out a suitable land for an education program in Thailand. This project will allow us to build deeper relations with the district government officers and local aid relief organizers. The villagers already recognize our effort and already know us by name. We are going to reinforce this by catering to more poor families in further areas.
We hope to raise funds for 200 needy families, 80 families of which are residing in mountainous areas. Prepare and give away 184 school shoes and socks for a nursery. Cater a support grant for a school with teaching materials.
I shall elaborate in detail with costing and quantities.
The plan consists of 3 parts, they are as follows:
Part 1 - Food Provision for 200 families - SG4000 - Main focus for AB Charity (SINGAPORE & MALAYSIA)
Each family will receive 15kg of rice and 3000cc of cooking oil. Rice 15kg - SG15 (estimated) Cooking oil - 3000cc - SG5 (estimated)
Total: 20 x 200 = SG4000
Part 2 - School shoes and socks for 184 children - SGD 1932 - Optional Each child will receive 1 pair of school shoes and 1 pair of socks School shoes and socks - SG10.50
Total: 10.50 x 184 = SG1932
Part 3 - Support Grant for School teaching materials - SG 1291 - Optional
Plant blocks and Music toys - SG 84 / set - Total for 8 Classrooms: SG 672 Book on moral Tales - SG 42 / set - Total for 8 Classrooms: SG 336 Chocolate milk - SG 0.40 - Total for 185 students: SG 74 Sports Equipment for games Loop football and Chairball - SG 209
Part 4 - Visit to 3 orphanages in Pontianak - SG 1500 - Main focus for AB Charity (INDONESIA)
We had been doing projects in places that i never thought i would visit in my life. I understand the projects are getting bigger and expanding. When i initially begin, it was with a humble group of people with very small projects as little as SG500 and soon we balloon to our biggest ever project in Jan 2012. Today with 135 recipients of the AB Charity avatar and 6 commendable AB Charity medal holders, am glad we did grow through these 4 years.
Sincerely, i am humbled by so many who had contributed quietly via email, it gives much strength to see people coming forward with financial assistance, time off and personal efforts to those who are unfortunate. Best of all, we had spread the goodness through these countries namely SIngapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and India
2013, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, will also be visited. It's been a long ride with AB.com. While on the road, train, jeep or flight, i am mostly alone, it gives a lot of motivation to see many AB members help with not needing anything in return.
This is going to be massive and i hope we can fulfill the needs of this poor community in Sakon Nakhon. We had a great trip the last time as they appreciate our presence and generosity hence the 2nd visit in July.
Our progress had grown in this area. Though it's little by little, at least now i am sure there are 2 hectares of land cleared and planted with Serai Wangi (Lemon Grass).
The effort is to be able to grow 15 hectares in phases and extract the lemon grass essence which give many different health benefits. Like preventing osteoporosis, anemia, cough, colds, leg cramps, lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and fight arthritis. What i had quoted is only an handful. There are many more which you can google.
With these many benefits, we see this as a good cash crop. That's the main reason why i am pushing for sustenance in that area. From the profits, we can give reasonable salary to the local farmers and i can begin education programs at the doorsteps of families who helped in this program.
If Sarikan progress well, Sakon Nakhon can potentially be the next destination which is why i now begin planting seeds of community relations with the district officers and local volunteers.
Knowing that i will be taking an active step towards this direction by organizing efforts and getting equipped with the necessary paper qualifications.

1) Child relief packs will be downgrade to only giving school shoes and socks. 2) Teaching materials and equipment will be sponsored to a school of 184 children. 3) AB Charity Singapore & Malaysia will focus on Part 1. 4) AB Charity Indonesia will focus on Part 4. 5) Facebook friends will focus on Part 2 & 3.
