'My immediate thought was to help the lady': SBS Transit staff, 65, chases alleged bag thief at Tampines interchange Two passersby helped to restrain the culprit and call the police. A 65-year-old SBS Transit customer service assistant at Tampines Bus Interchange went the extra mile when a woman reported a stolen bag on Mar. 11, confronted the culprit and later chasing him across the street when he made off with the wallet inside. Two passersby then helped the staff, Rozali Bin Koming, to restrain the culprit before police arrived to arrest him. All three were subsequently honoured with the Public Spiritedness Award by the Singapore Police Force (SPF). Confronted alleged thief at interchange The incident took place on Mar. 11, SPF said. After placing her handbag on a table at an eatery in Tampines, the victim was told by her friend that an unknown man had allegedly taken it. She left the eatery to find the man, and spotted him at Tampines bus interchange. SBS Transit said in a Facebook post that the distressed victim approached Rozali for help, telling him that her bag was stolen. After hearing that the culprit was still at the interchange, Rozali confronted the man and he returned the stolen bag. Chased him across the road However, after the man left, the woman realised that the wallet was still missing from her bag. Immediately, Rozali pursued the man, who tried to flee across the road. Rozali, with the help of two passersby, Hassin Shah and Lai Wai Kiat, managed to retrain the man. One of them called the police, who came down to arrest the man. Rozali, Hassin, and Lai were all honoured with the Public Spiritedness Award in a ceremony held the same day.
